November 15 - November 17, 2012 | Indianapolis, Indiana

The theme is "Re-examining Philanthropy: Exploring Root Concepts for our Field(s)." We focus attention on this theme both in recognition of the 25th anniversary of the IU Center on Philanthropy, which has led the way in building a field of Philanthropic Studies; and because over the last quarter century there have been so many changes in the understanding and practice of philanthropy that deserve our scrutiny now.

This theme will be addressed in the plenary sessions, and is designed to stir a public conversation about the larger question: "What is philanthropy, and how do we develop and encourage a broad and diverse approach to understanding philanthropy in theory and in practice?"

The Conference will be at the Hyatt Regency Hotel downtown. This location is across the street from the State House, and close to many cultural attractions and the IUPUI campus. For additional hotel information and to make your hotel reservation click on Conference Hotel.

We are pleased to be in Indianapolis to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University. We are collaborating closely with the Center, and with the Indiana Grantmakers Alliance and the state chapter of AFP, to stimulate more conversation about how we "move research to practice." That will, in fact, be the subject of the Center's Research Symposium, which will be held the day prior to our Conference. For more information about this collaboration click on Philanthropy Week.

As always, ARNOVA's Conference will include presentations and discussion of the latest research on the wide range of topics relating to nonprofit organizations, philanthropy, voluntary action and civil society. We feature sessions with international as well as national and local perspectives. We particularly welcome younger scholars and members of underrepresented groups to the conference so we can include them in our community. We have some scholarship funds to support the attendance to these groups, and hope you will look at these if you are in need of such help.
