Rapid Response Fund Report 2016

HIV-related services for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals are under threat in dozens of countries due to stigma, discrimination, and/or violence, a report from the International HIV/AIDS Alliance finds. The Rapid Response Fund Report 2016 (8 pages, PDF) highlights the efforts of the LGBT Rapid Response Fund, launched in October 2016 with $4 million in funding from the Elton John AIDS Foundation and the United States President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), to support organizations providing HIV services in twenty-nine countries, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Uganda, Jamaica, and Haiti — where clinics and support groups have been threatened or attacked and unable to provide services. With funding for the global AIDS response decreasing, the report notes the importance of human rights-led funding initiatives that are able to respond flexibly to emerging situations.
