Results Count: The Path to Equity

A video and accompanying introductory report from the Annie E. Casey Foundation outline four core techniques that can help social-sector leaders achieve better and more equitable results: 1) differentiating and understanding the connection between "whole population" and the targeted "program population" and being aware of who is most disadvantaged in terms of equitable opportunities; 2) using trend lines to further analyze factors affecting the targeted and whole populations and prioritizing them; 3) using factor analysis to inform the development of targeted and universal strategies; and 4) using performance measures to track progress and make a meaningful contribution to equitable outcomes. Results Count: The Path to Equity is based on Results Count, a competency-based approach to leadership development the foundation has developed over the last twenty-five years to achieve better results across the board or in the aggregate and ensure that children and families in every demographic group have access to better opportunities and, ultimately, benefit from better outcomes. The report explains in greater detail how leaders can ensure that their contributions are connected to larger strategies that lead to equitable results for a whole population; center their work around equity by paying attention to systemic factors that are producing inequitable results; maximize the impact of their work through data-driven and equity-informed analyses; and use performance measures to be more accountable.
