World Economic Forum

As a gesture of solidarity, the World Economic Forum, an independent, corporate-funded organization committed "to improving the state of the world," has moved its annual meeting, which opens January 31, from Davos, Switzerland, to New York City. The theme of this year's meeting, which is expected to attract 3,000 business and international government leaders who pay $25,000 to attend — as well as thousands of anti-globalization protesters — is "Leadership in Fragile Times: A Vision for a Shared Future." In addition to its high-profile annual meeting, the Forum sponsors or co-sponsors a number of year-round initiatives, including the Global Health Initiative against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria; a Global Corporate Citizenship Initiative; and a Global Digital Divide Initiative.
