Background

AIDS United’s mission is to end the AIDS epidemic in the U.S., through strategic grant-making, capacity building, formative research and policy. AIDS United works to ensure access to life-saving HIV/AIDS care and prevention services and to advance sound HIV/AIDS-related policy for U.S. populations and communities most impacted by the epidemic. To date, our strategic grant-making initiatives have directly funded more than $104 million to local communities, and have leveraged more than $117 million in additional investments for programs that include, but are not limited to HIV prevention, access to care, capacity building, harm reduction and advocacy. 

Job Summary

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant domain
  • 5+ years in non-profit fundraising and development
  • Successful proposal writing track record
  • Excellent organizational ability, self-motivated and able to take initiative with sound judgment
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and work independently as well as a member of a team
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to perform responsibilities in a professional manner while handling assignments with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated organizational, managerial, strategic planning and analysis skills.
  • Experience developing efficient operational systems and services, contracting, and human resources management preferred.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office Suite, CRM platforms, as well as general office systems.   

 

TRAVEL

Position requires minimum yearly travel.

Reports To

Responsibilities

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Serves as the organization’s primary lead for creating and executing AIDS United fundraising and fund development strategy.

  • Responsible for overall development, prospecting new potential funders, and grant administration.
  • Identifies and pursues strategic funding partners including corporate, government, foundation and major donors; keeps abreast of current and potential funder priorities; and leads fundraising efforts for individual donors. 
  • Manages and is lead writer on grant, contract and subcontract funding proposals to foundations, corporate giving programs, and federal and state funding opportunities. 
  • Leads all proposal development activities and works jointly with program, policy, finance, and operations to attain proposal requirements.
  • Tracks Notices of Funding Opportunities and Requests for Proposals through grants.gov and other resources. 
  • Ensures timely submission of all funding proposals and contract reports to funders.
  • Works directly with the program, policy and operational teams to ensure solid understanding of initiatives, programs and activities to best position the organization to secure and maintain funding.
  • Develops and manages strategies for establishing and maintaining funder relations.
  • Leads and supports special event planning for fundraising and promotional efforts.   
  • Leads fund development for key initiatives including AIDS United’s Sector Transformation Fund, Southern Collaborative Fund, Syringe Access Fund, Connecting to Care, Transgender Leadership Initiative and others.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES

 Strategic Planning -

  • Establishing development targets for the organization
  • Cultivating prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis to foster productive relationships
  • Growing a major gifts program including identification, cultivation and solicitation of major donors.
  • Conducting grant seeking including research, proposal writing, and reporting requirements.
  • Building the planned giving program with a focus on deferred gifts such as bequest expectancies.
  • Directing the annual fund development campaign, including mailings and annual fundraising drives.
  • Planning and coordinating fund raising special events.
  • Performing prospect research on foundations and corporations
  • Working closely with the Executive Team and Board of Directors.
  • Making public appearances/speaking engagements to promote the work of AIDS United to solicit funding support
  • Staffing Board of Trustees Development Committee meetings.
  • Overseeing maintenance of fundraising database and tracking systems.
  • Supervising and collaborating with grant writing consultants.
  • Overseeing creation of publications to support fund raising activities.
  • Maintaining gift recognition programs.
  • Demonstrating professional conduct always.
  • Performing other related duties as requested.

 Grant Writing -

  • Developing and writing grant and contract proposals to foundations, federal and state agencies, and other funders and grant-making organizations, persuasively communicating the organization’s mission and programs to potential funders and ensuring submitted proposals meet all funder submission requirements;
  • Assembling and submitting grant proposal applications, including transmittal letters, proposals, budgets, appendices and presentations;
  • Maintaining fund development calendar to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposal deadlines, and reports;
  • Prioritizing multiple projects to keep moving in a timely manner, meeting deadlines and managing supplemental material required for proposals
  • Collaborating with program and policy staff to ensure up-to-date understanding of AIDS United work and potential synergies for funding opportunities.

Compensation

$90,000 - $95,000
