Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Institutional Giving, primary responsibility is to create compelling, outcomes-driven, and client-ready letters of inquiry, proposals, reports, and other correspondence for a diverse audience of foundation and corporate donors (both current and prospective). Additional responsibilities include management of the full grant cycle, including internal communications, donor management, and compliance with grant deliverables and outcomes. Administrative duties include maintenance of electronic and hard files, and providing support to senior staff, as needed. The ideal candidate will possess not only the requisite experience, but also a strong attention to detail along with a passion for serving high-needs children and families in the child welfare and social service arenas in NYC.


  • Develop, write, and assemble proposals and reports to corporations and foundations, in response to specific and general parameters as set forth by funders
  • Support the department’s public funding team to write letters, reports, and grants on select projects
  • Work closely with program staff to generate narrative content and project budgets
  • Monitor compliance with grant deliverables and outcomes
  • Conduct research on social service related issues and integrate findings,including statistics into work product
  • Conduct prospect research
  • Maintain corporate and foundation donor files and Raiser’s Edge records
  • As needed, travel to Children’s Aid sites across NYC (Harlem, South Bronx, Washington Heights, and northern Staten Island) to meet with staff and gather    information for proposal development
  • Coordinate donor site visits, as needed
  • Attend workshops, conferences, and events, as requested, to keep current in the field of child welfare and social services as it pertains to Children’s Aid programs
  • Assist the Director of Institutional Giving in implementing new systems and tools to improve department efficiency and effectiveness
  • Perform other duties, as assigned by the Assistant Director of Institutional Giving, Director of Institutional Giving, or Chief Development Officer


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • At least 2 years of grant writing experience for sophisticated, data-driven funder audiences
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Experience in developing budgets preferred
  • Detail and deadline oriented, with an ability to work well under pressure
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and  Outlook
  • Previous experience with CRM databases, such as Raiser’s Edge preferred
