The Diabetes Research Institute Foundation (DRIF) seeks a President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to help fulfill its critical vision and mission of raising funds to support pioneering research and the translation of discoveries into novel approaches to disease prevention and finding a cure for Type 1 diabetes.
The Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) is a free standing designated Center of Excellence (with more than 180 researchers and scientists) at the University of Miami School Of Medicine. The DRI leads the world in cure-focused research. As the largest and most comprehensive research center dedicated to curing diabetes, the DRI is aggressively working to shrink the timeline toward the discovery of a biological cure for this disease.
The President and Chief Executive Officer is the leader and central strategist for all DRIF activities with the goal of maximizing giving, expanding the donor base and representing DRIF locally, nationally and internationally. The President and Chief Executive Officer oversees a staff of 30 in Hollywood, Florida and New York City and is responsible for actively developing, mentoring and managing staff and working closely with the National and Regional Boards and their Committees to further engage, motivate and expand participation in fundraising, networking and related activities.
The new CEO will work closely with DRIF’s board of directors and will play a critical role in developing and leading the DRIF’s future philanthropic strategic plan and executing on its fundraising goals and objectives. The CEO will be responsible for building relationships with DRI’s constituents, including its current donors, prospective donors, friends, researchers, and other key internal and external constituents. The new CEO will develop strategies and tactics to generate awareness of DRI’s most notable research projects and investigative breakthroughs and identify potential philanthropic funders of the DRI’s most pressing needs and priorities. The CEO will serve as the DRI’s chief fundraiser and principal gift officer in an effort to secure financial support, while building infrastructure and fundraising programs to support a future campaign. Candidates should have a long history of raising significant gifts, a history of successful leadership and strong experience with boards and governance bodies.
The new CEO can be based either in South Florida or in New York City, with a strong commitment to spending significant time in both locations. The DRIF’s new CEO will have an opportunity to play a key role in the evolution to national and international prominence for this critical and cutting edge research institute dedicated to eradicating Type 1 diabetes.
