We support both non-profit organizations and for-profit start-ups who pursue strategies that will result in measurable, verifiable decreases in greenhouse gas emissions. 

Job Summary

We are looking for a Program Officer based in our office in Kentfield, CA. The Program Officer will assist in developing, evaluating and managing a portfolio of grants, investments and initiatives. The Program Officer is expected to develop and maintain a variety of relationships in the community, and a knowledge base of current trends, activities and changes within the community at-large.   • Respond to inquiries from nonprofit and for profit organizations, analyze proposals and business plans and participate in interviewing prospective portfolio organizations
  • Work with a portfolio of grantees and investments to ensure their proposals meet OIF’s requirements and that their activities are in line with their proposals
  • Provide assistance to grant seekers and funded organizations, as necessary, to help them get the resources they need to meet their goals
  • In particular, provide support to Cool Effect, an OIF grantee, in its growth and operations
  • Prepare board, management and community reports on results of Foundation initiatives, strategies, grants and investments
  • Ensure that grant files are complete, accurate and current. Maintain information regarding grant-making activity
  • Monitor implementation of grants and investments by requesting and reviewing written evaluations and by conducting site visits to a representative number of organizations
  • Develop and maintain contact with broad cross section of nonprofit and for profit organizations in the climate change community
  • Keep abreast of emerging issues both nationally and internationally
  • Provide support, when requested, for all Foundation activities


  • Commitment to helping stop climate change required, experience in the climate change sector preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Three-to-five years of post-college experience, some portion in the nonprofit or foundation sector
  • Grant-making experience and knowledge of program evaluation and communicating impact preferred
  • For-profit, early-stage investment experience a plus
  • Familiarity with contracts and grant agreements a plus
  • Ability to review complex narratives and proposals and make recommendations
  • Ability to read and analyze program budgets and financial statements
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills; proven ability to be flexible in a team-oriented approach with diverse groups of people
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to efficiently and effectively handle multiple tasks at the same time
  • Detail-oriented
  • Computer literate; experience working with databases
  • Fluent English, Spanish a plus
