Job Summary

Summary of the Position:

We are seeking a fund-raising professional who is extraordinary in building relationships.  An ideal candidate has had major gifts experience and knows how to develop engaged donors in support of our research.  

The Development Director will develop and implement a fundraising plan to effectively move the organization to the next level of visibility and success within the philanthropic communities.  Working closely with the Executive Director and Board, the Development Director will lead by presenting ideas, programs and event opportunities.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and executes a sustainable, strategic fundraising program; provides metrics and update reports
  • Researches, identifies and engages with prospective donors; crafts a strategic and ongoing pipeline; develops relationships that result in high-level corporate and philanthropic sponsorship  
  • Implements systems and procedures to effectively manage the fundraising program
  • Collaborates with the Foundation team; identifies and prepares documentation such as requests for proposal and letters of intent for potential grant opportunities
  • Identifies events and affiliations (local events, conferences, professional organizations, media outlets, etc.) to build awareness about the Foundation; develops meaningful connections to potential supporters
  • Manages Foundation fundraising in-person events and activities
  • Forms meaningful relationships with connections in the field of orthopedics, regenerative medicine, and sports, leveraging them to generate fundraising opportunities
  • Oversees donor database; monitors and tracks contributions; generates analysis and produces progress reports
  • Collaborates with communications team; develops strategy and materials for social media, email, and print
  • Implements and supervises an internship program for development interns and volunteers


Qualifications and Experience:

  • At least 3 years’ experience  in cultivating major gifts and donations; grant writing, a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Strong commitment to the mission of the Stone Research Foundation
  • Successful track record of meeting/exceeding fundraising goals in a non-profit organization
  • Excellent writing, editing, and marketing skills, combined with knowledge of print and digital production
  • Solid working knowledge of MS Office and CRM/fundraising software
  • Experience in creating successful direct mail, marketing materials, online giving appeals including social media, and campaigns 
  • Exceptional analytic, planning, project management and organizational skills
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with fundraising databases, gift processing, gift acknowledgment, and gift reporting best practices
  • Highly effective organizational, communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Entrepreneurial and resourceful leader who is able to recognize and act on new and potential opportunities
  • Experience in non-profit management, fund development, revenue generation
  • Experience working with local government agencies, educators, businesses, and community-based organizations; easily relates to a wide range of constituencies
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial budgeting and fundraising experience
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule; may include some evening and weekend hours
