Bend the Arc is growing a national Jewish movement of Jewish resistance at the local, state, and national levels. Our 2018-2020 strategy is focused on mobilizing the Jewish community to defeat the Trump Administration, stop white nationalist policies, and build a true multiracial democracy where all people can live, love, and thrive. We’re expanding our distributed field program, our Washington advocacy, and our leadership development programs for young Jewish activists and Jewish leaders of color.
The Development Associate is an integral member of the development team, a department that raises about $7 million each year across Bend the Arc’s family of organizations. The Development Associate’s primary responsibilities are in the area of gift processing and donor acknowledgement, keeping data integrity and prompt donor service as their top priority. The Development Associate supports the administrative work of the development department as well as the PAC, working closely with the PAC Director and development team to support events, special projects, and activities, as needed. This role holds an important piece of donor relationships, often in the vein of gift processing or event coordination, requiring attention to detail and a high level of donor service. Additionally, this position requires coordination and work with colleagues across all Bend the Arc departments, making relationship building a key to success in this role.
Reports to: Director of Development
Gift, Data, and Donor Communications Processing
- Process and track all gifts and contributions to all entities (501c3; 501c4; PAC), including checks, credit cards, and stocks;
- Prepare pledge letters for all pledged gifts and track incoming pledge payments;
- Prepare acknowledgement letters and honor/memoriam letters;
- Maintain donor and gift records using the Raiser’s Edge database; run weekly gift reports and other reports as requested; track ongoing donor correspondence;
- Liaise with PAC compliance firm to disburse funds to endorsed candidates;
- Run monthly major donor reports to circulate to Board Finance Committee;
- Reconcile with the Finance Department on a monthly basis;
- Maintain Raiser’s Edge database and perform clean-up and other projects to increase data integrity including but not limited to removing duplicates, updating addresses, and managing relationships;
- Ensure our donors are receiving the correct emails using NationBuilder;
- Reconcile Raiser’s Edge and NationBuilder donor information;
- Maintain Development Department files (hard copies and Google Drive);
- Prepare and update donor packets with current information about Bend the Arc’s programs to support fundraising efforts;
- Provide administrative support in the planning and implementation of PAC and donor events, phone calls, parlor meetings, galas and conferences (when applicable) - may require working evenings and weekends (infrequently);
- Serve as first point of contact for mid-level and major donors; handle internal and external calls, mail, and email;
- Provide day to day administrative support to the Development Department and PAC, and perform other administrative duties as needed;
- Work on special projects as assigned;
- Assist the CEO when the Executive Assistant is out/needs additional support.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of related experience in development or similar focus in a non-profit setting.
- Commitment to social justice, to the values and goals of Bend the Arc, and to working at a values-based organization with a high emphasis on mutual respect, intentional workplace culture, and a commitment to racial equity.
- Ability to represent the organization to donors and to interface with all levels of staff while maintaining confidentiality, tact and diplomacy.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
- Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to efficiently and accurately manage multiple deadlines and tasks.
- Integrity and sense of humor.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google platforms (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Hangouts, etc.), as well as comfort learning new technology and systems
- Experience with databases such as Raiser’s Edge, NationBuilder and CQ Knowlegis preferred, not required.
- Prior political fundraising experience a plus.
Compensation and Hours: This is a full-time, non-exempt position, with occasional evening or weekend work based on need. The annual salary range is $48,000-52,000 DOE, and includes paid time off and health benefits.
