Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History | Santa Cruz, California

Background

ABOUT THE MUSEUM OF ART & HISTORY (MAH)

The MAH is a thriving central gathering place for Santa Cruz County, with a mission to ignite shared experiences and unexpected connections. To do this, we co-create interactive exhibitions and hands-on community events, host school tours, manage a historical archive and two historic sites, and collaborate on cultural festivals throughout the County. We bring people of all backgrounds together around art, history, creativity and culture to build a stronger, more connected community.

The MAH was founded in 1996 with a great deal of enthusiasm and support. In the last 8 years we have undergone a major transformation and expansion to become a more relevant, dynamic community space.  In 2017, we celebrated the revitalization of Abbott Square, an indoor/outdoor public plaza featuring food, beverages, live music, and community events created in collaboration with hundreds of local partners. Attendance has grown from 17,000 in 2011 to 130,000 in 2019.

The MAH is a creative center of downtown Santa Cruz. Our next leader will play an important role in the future of our county.
