Media and Community Specialist

Job Summary

Under the leadership of the CEO and with the Director of Community and Agency Communications, will actively pursue and build positive civic relationships with the community and elected officials to further enhance the Agency's partnership in the local communities.  This position will develop, adapt and implement an overall agency internal staff communication and interpretation strategy/plan using both social and traditional media.

  •  Manage all media enquiries
  •  Develop an engagement plan to build positive relationships with the media and community partners
  •  Build and maintain strong relationships with elected officials - primarily in NYC - and/or their staffs
  •  Build and maintain strong relationships with the NYC Community Boards in designated areas
  •  Regularly attend NYC Community Board meetings to further develop community partnership
  •  Build and maintain strong relationships with civic and community groups - primarily in NYC
  • Regularly attend civic and community meetings, seeking opportunities to present the Agency and the positive work that we do
  •  Respond in a positive and respectful manner to diversity, among the Agency’s service population
  • Partner with influencers and change makers to create positive and consistent narratives about the agency


  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required and 5+ years of experience in media and community relations, preferably in a nonprofit
  • Bilingual - English/Spanish
  • Demonstrated successful experience developing positive relationships with the media 
  • Demonstrated successful experience developing positive relationships with NYC elected officials and NYC Community Boards
  • Experience building relationships via social media and through online engagement
  • Strong skills in G Suite and database management software  
  • Ability to travel to other agency locations as required
