ABOUT GREENWICH HOUSE
Founded in 1902 as a settlement house to help New York’s increasing immigrant population adjust to life in a new country, Greenwich House today offers a variety of programs and approaches that continue to provide thousands of New Yorkers with health and wellness supports, education and personal enrichment, and skills building and cultural experiences.
The Development Director oversees Greenwich House’s day-to-day development efforts and is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive and strategic fundraising plan. The Development Director will help the CEO, Program Directors, and the Board, strengthen relationships with existing funders, and build relationships with a broader and more diverse funding base. The Director will work closely with our Board of Directors while further expanding Board membership. The Director will create, implement, and monitor overall fundraising strategy through efforts that include: events, direct marketing, individual donor engagement, planned giving, government and philanthropic grants and corporate partnerships – with an annual goal of $1m - $1.5m, and an eye towards balanced growth year over year. This position reports directly to and works closely with the CEO.
- 10 years of experience in nonprofit or public sectors, at least 5 years of experience in a similar role.
- Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, public administration, marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field is preferred, but not required.
- A demonstrated track record of designing and executing an overall fundraising plan and growing and diversifying donor bases.
- Extensive fundraising/marketing experience for social services, youth services, health services, education, arts/culture, or community-based programming.
- Passionate about the mission/vision of Greenwich House, and new initiatives being planned and pursued around health/wellness, youth/education, senior/community service.
- Strong knowledge of principles, ethics and practices of successful fundraising and development.
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously, to track work details, and to respond flexibly to changes.
- Strong storytelling skills and demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and persuasively.
- Strong problem-solving and strategic-thinking skills, and sound judgment.
- Understand the confidential nature of fundraising efforts and handling donor information.
- Strong computer skills, including knowledge of the MS Office Suite. Familiarity with electronic donor tracking systems, Raiser’s Edge Donor Tracking System is preferred.
Fundraising & Development
- Develop and implement fundraising strategies, define annual operating plans, recognize and act on opportunities, shift gears and priorities as needed, and provide transparency in issues/obstacles.
- Convey energy, meaning and importance of Greenwich House’s mission and work.
- Work closely with the CEO and the Board to identify, develop, and cultivate major gifts prospects from individual, corporate, and foundation sources; develop and execute closing and stewardship strategies.
- Coordinate with Operations, Strategy, Finance and Program leadership to ensure funding proposals reflect comprehensive operational and strategic needs.
- Manage and actively participate in creating virtual and in-person event-planning by reimagining current event platforms and target audiences.
- Establish and cultivate relationships with prospective and current individual and corporate donors, Board members, foundations, elected officials, volunteers, local communities and businesses.

- Meet donor needs by providing strategies and opportunities that raise revenue and other resources while building trust and benefitting both parties.
- Research new sources of funding and planning to meet the needs of the agency and execute/aid in the response process including writing, editing, packaging and submitting proposals.
- Manage Board of Director engagements and Board development.
- Understand industry trends, utilize technologies and new platforms to improve results.
- Execute appropriate follow-ups, correspondence, and follow-through.
- Work closely with the CEO and the senior leadership to ensure development efforts are aligned and integrated with the agency’s specific and general goals and priorities.
- Energize the Board’s personal and professional resources, interests and capabilities in various fundraising and volunteering efforts. Work closely with the Board on strategies and solicitations.
- Set clear benchmarks/goals for the work, regularly reflect on progress through data tracking and analysis, and adjust tactics as necessary to meet Greenwich House’s goals.
- Manage and supervise departmental staff, which includes regular communication, meetings, hiring, and performance evaluations.
- Support staff in professional development and growth through in-service training and development of new resources.
- Perform other tasks and special projects as assigned by the CEO & Executive Director.
