Whitaker Foundation Begins Phasing Out Grant Programs

Having invested more than $575 million in biomedical engineering education and research since its founding in 1975, the Whitaker Foundation has announced that it is phasing out its grant programs to coincide with its planned closing in 2006.

Community Foundations Gave and Received More in 2000

According to a Columbus Foundation survey, gifts received by U.S. community foundations totaled $4.1 billion in 2000, a 13 percent increase from 1999, while the amount of grants paid out by those foundations rose 12 percent, to about $2.1 billion.

Edna McConnell Clark Foundation to Fund Child Welfare Center

The Edna McConnell Clark Foundation has announced an $11.1 million grant to the Center for the Study of Social Policy to create a new center to protect children from abuse and neglect through public-private partnerships in individual communities.
