Arizona Opera has announced a gift of $2 million from Kay and Ron McDougall in support of a new fall series.
The McDougall Arizona Opera RED Series will launch later this year with Maria de Buenos Aires, by Astor Piazzolla and Horacio Ferrer, and Charlie Parker’s Yardbird, by Daniel Schnyder and Bridgette A. Wimberly. Announced last fall as part of a comprehensive shift in the opera’s season model, the series will deepen the company’s investment in adventurous, theatrical, and curiosity-inspiring new works, even as it continues to produce classic operas. The series will be presented each fall in Phoenix at the Herberger Theater and in Tucson at the Temple of Music and Art.
“We are profoundly grateful to Ron and Kay for their support of the RED Series and for sharing our vision of creating the most artistically vibrant opera company possible for Arizona,” said Joseph Specter, president and general director of Arizona Opera. “The gift from Ron and Kay is an extraordinary vote of confidence in our strategic direction as we strive toward making our greatest contribution to Arizona’s arts and culture sector, which is such a crucial factor for any state’s quality of life and prospects for economic development.”
