Baylor University receives $30 million for student scholarships

Baylor University in Waco, Texas, has announced a $30 million commitment from alumni Dan (BBA '89) and Jenni (BBA '92) Hord in support of merit-based scholarships.

The gift will launch the Hord Scholarship Challenge, which is aimed at encouraging the broader Baylor community to match the gift by the conclusion of the university's Give Light Campaign in 2022. The campaign was mounted in support of the school's new strategic plan and has led to the creation of more than five hundred endowed scholarships since its launch in 2014.

Dan Hord is a partner in oil and gas company HEDLOC Investment Co. and commercial property development and leasing firm Western Property Group, while Jenni Hord is co-manager of Vanderpool Management, a commercial and residential property development and leasing firm and serves as president of the Hord Foundation. Two of the couple's children are seniors at Baylor.

"It is always our hope that the best and brightest students who are drawn to Baylor University will be able to choose this community as their own," said Baylor president Linda A. Livingstone. "With the rising costs of higher education, we understand that these hopes are not always feasible without the significant support of our alumni, parents, and friends in the form of scholarships....The Hord Scholarship Challenge will be a polestar to guide and inspire others in the Baylor [f]amily as they consider how to most significantly impact the lives of Baylor students through philanthropy.”
