The Burroughs Wellcome Fund in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, has announced its 2019 Investigators in the Pathogenesis of Infectious Disease.
The eleven researchers will each receive $500,000 over five years in support of their approaches to the study of human infectious diseases, with a focus on the interplay between human and microbial biology. The awards are intended to give recipients the freedom and flexibility to pursue new avenues of inquiry and stimulate higher-risk research projects with the potential for significantly advancing understanding of how infectious diseases work and how health can be maintained.
"Infectious disease is an ever-increasing risk to human health," said Burroughs Wellcome Fund president John Burris. "The investigators recognized with this award are innovative thinkers, and providing them with funding to answer challenging questions will have major impacts."
