Carlos Slim Foundation Commits $42 Million for COVID-19 Response

The Mexico City-based Carlos Slim Foundation has announced a commitment of one billion pesos ($42 million) in support of efforts to treat and stem the spread of COVID-19 in Mexico.

The funds will be used to purchase medical equipment needed to treat patients in intensive care units, including ventilators, sonograms, and video-laryngoscopes; provide personal protection equipment such as gloves and face masks for healthcare workers; pay for sanitation and disinfection operations in public hospitals; support efforts to improve diagnostic capacity nationwide; and fund educational materials aimed at slowing the spread of the virus.

The funds also will be used to underwrite special medical attention for the elderly, people with chronic underlying conditions, and pregnant women, as well as access to PruébaT (T-Test), an online learning platform for primary school children that was developed by the  foundation.
