Carnegie Mellon Receives $5.5 Million From Uber

Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh has announced a $5.5 million gift from Uber in support of a new faculty chair and three new fellowships in robotics.

The gift is part of CMU's partnership with Uber, which was announced earlier this year and includes additional investments in robotics and related technologies. The new positions are expected to attract top talent to the CMU robotics research program.

"Academia-industry partnerships play an important role in promoting our mutual missions of technological innovation and developing outstanding talent at all levels," said Carnegie Mellon president Subra Suresh. "We are grateful for Uber’s support for the intellectual work at the heart of this activity."
