To be renamed in honor of Chili's, the St. Jude School Program is aimed at giving patients a way to focus on the future and keep up with schoolwork during their stay at the hospital. For children who are put into an unfamiliar hospital environment, school provides a regular routine, feeling of control, and sense of normalcy. Announced in conjunction with the launch of the restaurant's annual campaign benefiting the hospital, the commitment will enable St. Jude's to enhance the program, which provides every participating child with at least three hours of instruction a week as well as curriculum materials if none are available from the child's school.
In 2006, Chili's committed to raising $50 million over ten years to build the state-of-the-art Chili's Care Center — a goal the company achieved in 2014.
"Year after year, we've seen our team members and guests rally to support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital — helping make a tremendous impact," said Chili's Grill & Bar president Kelli Valade. "[W]e are extremely proud to have raised more than $58 million for patients and families."
