Cleveland Foundation Awards $3.7 Million to Area Nonprofits

The Cleveland Foundation has announced grants totaling $3.7 million to nonprofit organizations serving residents of Cuyahoga, Lake, and Geauga counties.

The October grants are focused on two of the foundation's priority impact areas, the arts and social services. Grants awarded in the area of arts and culture include $50,000 to Dancing Wheels Company and School, a professional dance company with dancers who are able-bodied and disabled, in support of its move to a new space in midtown Cleveland; and $85,000 to Apollo's Fire, a baroque ensemble that performs around the world, to launch a campaign aimed at reaching new and diverse audiences in Cleveland and beyond.

Grants awarded in support of social services include $40,800 to the Lake County Free Clinic for staff additions and technology enhancements that will increase the organization's capacity to meet healthcare needs in the county; $60,000 to the Waiting Child Fund in support of a collaboration with the Cuyahoga County Division of Children and Family Services and other community partners aimed at developing programs and best practices focused on improving the lives of LGBTQ youth in foster care; and $199,735 to Stella Maris, Inc. to address a void in the organization's continuum of care for women, expanding its job readiness and placement program to include women in recovery, and launching an outreach campaign to build awareness of its services in the community.
