NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital has announced a $75 million gift from the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation for a new pre- and post-natal care unit at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center on Manhattan's Upper East Side.
To be named the Alexandra & Steven Cohen Hospital for Women and Newborns, the 246,500-square-foot facility will be housed in the David H. Koch Center, a planned ambulatory-care facility that is expected to open by 2020. When completed, the unit will feature seventy-five private antepartum/postpartum private rooms and well-baby bassinets, sixty private neonatal intensive care bassinets, sixteen labor and delivery rooms, five C-section operative suites, five post-acute care bays, and fourteen ultrasound rooms. According to NewYork-Presbyterian, the facility will be the first in New York City to have MRI capabilities and an operating room in its neonatal intensive care unit.
"Every child deserves access to the highest-quality care, and we know that a child's health starts with a healthy mother, pregnancy, and delivery," said Cohen Foundation president Alex Cohen. "Steven and I are grateful to be able to help NewYork-Presbyterian build a facility that gives mothers-to-be and their children world-class care and medical services from start to finish."
