California

The Ventura County Community Foundation in Camarillo has announced a grant of $200,000 from the Amgen Foundation in support of disaster relief following the Thomas Fire. Since the fire, the largest in California history, erupted in December, VCCF has secured more than $650,000 in community-based contributions in support of relief and recovery efforts, with the foundation's board of directors committing an additional $200,000.

The Sacramento Region Community Foundation has announced that it raised $13.8 million in philanthropic contributions during 2017 and, in partnership with its donors, directed more than $11.2 million to local nonprofits and local students. In addition to the $8.5 million donors directed to nonprofits of their choice, and the $1.5 million it awarded in scholarships, the foundation awarded $1.2 million to organizations in the region working to meet a variety of immediate and long-term community needs.

Connecticut

The Derby-based Valley Community Foundation, a partner of the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven, has announced the addition of James Hodge, Angela Powers, and Jack Walsh to its board. Hodge served as a teacher and administrator in the Bridgeport school system for thirty-five years. Powers is senior vice president of the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven and served as the first president of VCF. And Walsh served as president and chief operating officer of Valley United Way.

Louisiana

The Greater New Orleans Foundation has announced that the fifth annual GiveNOLA Day will take place on May 1, from 12:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Over the past four years the 24-hour online giving event has raised more than $15 million for regional nonprofits. Last year, the event raised $4.9 million. This year, GNOF hopes to raise at least $5 million from forty thousand donors in support of over seven hundred local nonprofits.

Massachusetts

The Cape Cod Foundation has announced that it will administer the DY Dolphin Dash Fund in support of the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School (DYHS) Athletic Department. The 5K road race/walk was launched in 2016 to raise funds for DYHS students, and the next edition will be held on Saturday, April 28, with about four hundred students expected to compete on multiple DYHS teams.

The Essex County Community Foundation in Danvers has announced that it will spearhead the first-ever countywide effort to elevate arts and culture in the region. Over the next two years, ECCF's Creative County Initiative, a partnership with the Barr Foundation, will invest $750,000 in the local arts and culture scene, including $500,000 for municipalities, businesses, and artists working collaboratively with nonprofits on public art and creative placemaking projects; an annual countywide summit that brings together artists, nonprofits, businesses, and municipal leaders to learn, connect, and collaborate; the creation of an online arts hub, EssexCountyCreates.org; and the development of a countywide arts and culture plan.

New York

The Brooklyn Community Foundation has announced the election of Zul Jamal and Carley Roney to its board of directors. Jamal is a managing director at Moelis & Company, an independent investment bank. Roney is co-founder of The Knot, a New York City-based Internet company that supports female-founded startups.

Virginia

The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia in Loudon has announced the launch of an interactive dashboard, the Opportunity Index for Northern Virginia, designed to serve as a resource for donors in the region looking to help economically disadvantaged populations in the region.

Wisconsin

The Greater Milwaukee Foundation has announced that its Bucyrus Foundation has awarded $200,000 for a variety of economic development activities in South Milwaukee. The funding includes $75,000 in support of a newly created economic development director position; $50,000 to replenish an innovative grant program through which downtown property and business owners can qualify for up to $30,000 in matching grant funds in support of interior and exterior remodeling projects; and $75,000 for the development of a master plan for the former Bucyrus campus once a new owner purchases the property. Bucyrus, a mining equipment company, called Milwaukee home for nearly a hundred and twenty years until it was sold to Caterpillar in 2011.
