Community Foundation Update (03/10/18)


The Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville has announced the launch of a fund that will support digital-inclusion efforts in Huntsville. With seed funding provided by Google Fiber, the Digital Inclusion Fund will award grants to high-impact programs that make Internet access and digital education available to those without access to such resources. An RFP will be published on the foundation's website in mid-March, with the first round of grants to be awarded in May.


The San Diego Foundation has announced the appointment of Brian Zumbano as vice president of development and stewardship. For the past five years, Zumbano has served in executive positions at UC San Diego Health Services.


The Community Foundation – Boulder County has announced grants totaling $316,950 to a hundred and nineteen organizations. More than half that amount, $179,700, was awarded in support of health and human service organizations, with $29,250 allocated to organizations working in education, $29,500 in support of civic engagement, $39,500 awarded to arts and culture groups, and $39,000 awarded in support of animal welfare and the environment.


The Central Indiana Community Foundation has announced that Jennifer Bartenbach has been promoted to the newly created position of executive vice president. In that role, Bartenbach will oversee the foundation's internal operations while retaining her responsibilities as the foundation's chief financial officer. The foundation also announced the promotions of Alicia Collins to the position of director of community collaborations and Sarah Cowart to the position of communications manager, and announced Ben Snyder as its new marketing manager.


The Cleveland Foundation has announced February grants totaling $5 million in support of organizations serving residents of Cuyahoga, Lake, and Geauga counties. Recipients include Ursuline College, Greater Cleveland Volunteers, St. Vincent Charity Medical Center, and MedWorks.

Rhode Island

The Rhode Island Foundation has announced that it will award grants of up to $10,000 through its Equity Action Fund in support of projects that meet priority needs of the LGBTQ community in the state. Applicants are eligible to receive one project or capacity-building grant per year. The deadline to apply for grants of more than $2,500 is April 12; the foundation accepts proposals for grants of less than $2,500 throughout the year.

New Mexico

The Grant County Community Foundation has awarded grants totaling $20,000 to five organizations β€” the first grants awarded by the foundation since it was established in 2012, the Silver City Daily Press reports. Awards include a total of $15,000 from the foundation's unrestricted funds and $5,000 through the Sebert Brewer Fund, which was established by Brewer's widow. (Brewer was a co-founder of the foundation.) Recipients include Deming Silver Linings, the Virus Theater, Mimbres Culture Heritage Site, the Gila Valley Library, and the Lotus Center.


The Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga has appointed Marcus Rafiee to the new position of senior director of giving strategies, the Chattanoogan reports. In that role, Rafiee will be responsible for deepening relationships with professional philanthropic advisors.


The Vermont Community Foundation has announced that grants are available for Brattleboro-area projects and organizations through the Crosby-Gannett Fund and the Dunham-Mason Fund at VCF. The funds were established at the foundation in 2009 with the assets of the Crosby and Dunham-Mason foundations, which were both dissolved in December 2008. Eligible projects and organizations should be focused on innovation, capital improvements, and historical renovation/preservation. The deadline to apply is April 18 at 5:00 p.m.
