California

The California Community Foundation in Los Angeles has announced $1.4 million in grants to nineteen organizations as part of its commitment to immigrant inclusion and protection. To that end, the grants will deliver critical support to organizations working to provide immigrant families in need with Know Your Rights workshops, legal representation, and pathways to citizenship. Recipients include the California Immigrant Policy Center, the Council of Mexican Federations, the National Immigration Law Center, and the NALEO Educational Fund.

Iowa

The Iowa West Foundation has announced that it is adding to the pot of incentives available to nonprofits participating in Pottawattamie Gives! on May 24. To be held in conjunction with Omaha Gives, the 24-hour giving event is being organized by the Omaha Community Foundation in partnership with the Pottawattamie County Community Foundation in Council Bluffs. The $20,000 in challenge funds announced by the Iowa West Foundation will be set aside for nonprofits providing services in Pottawattamie County.

Louisiana

The Greater New Orleans Foundation and ExxonMobil have announced $58,200 in grants to twelve local nonprofits, the St. Bernard Voice reports. The grants were part of a litigation settlement related to air quality releases in Chalmette during the 1990s.

Massachusetts

The Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation has announced that the Artist's Resource Trust Fund has awarded $138,400 to twenty artists and eight organizations in New England and Columbia County and northeast Dutchess County in New York. Established in 1996, the A.R.T. fund supports mid-career visual artists, age 35 and older, and nonprofit organizations that purchase, exhibit, and/or commission their work. Recipient organizations include the Cambridge Arts Council, the Currier Museum of Art, MASS MoCA, and Waterfall Arts. 

Michigan

The Detroit-based Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan has announced that the Head Start Innovation Fund Collaborative (Innovation Fund) will award nine grants totaling $1.5 million to Head Start groups in support of parent engagement and teacher recruitment and retention activities. The first round of grants awarded since the expansion of the program to the tri-county region, the grants will continue Innovation Fund support for nearly nine thousand young children and their families enrolled in Head Start agencies in Detroit and Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties. Recipients include Starfish Family Services, Wayne Metro Community Action Agency, and the Guidance Center.

New York

The New York Community Trust has announced the creation of a $1 million "Liberty Fund" in support of urgent initiatives designed to preserve constitutional protections for city residents. To that end, the trust awarded grants to twenty-one nonprofits working to provide on-the-ground assistance to individuals affected by changes to federal immigration policy. Recipients include the Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance, Chhaya Community Development Corporation, the Muslim Community Network, and the New York Immigration Coalition.

Pennsylvania

The Erie Community Foundation has announced grants totaling $51,103 through an endowed fund established by William Schuster in 1998. The fund awards grants to thirteen organizations in the region Schuster selected before his death, including the Erie Playhouse, Hospice of Erie, Stairways Behavioral Health, and United Way of Erie County.

Wisconsin

The Oshkosh Area Community Foundation has announced more than $25,000 in grants through the Hiwela Legacy Fund to nonprofits working in the area of youth development. Recipients include Best Friends of Neenah Menasha, Girl Scouts of Northwestern Great Lakes, International Youth Sailing of Oshkosh, and Rawhide. Established after the sale of Camp Hiwela, the fund was the first field of interest fund at OACF focused on youth.
