Community Foundation Update (08/19/17)


The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties has announced the appointment of Sherry Barrat as chair of its board of directors and the selection of Julie Fisher Cummings and Timothy Burke to the board. Barrat is the lead non-executive director of NextEra Energy, the parent company of Florida Power and Light; Burke is publisher of the Palm Beach Post; and Cummings is a philanthropist.


The Cape Cod Foundation has announced that more than a thousand motorcyclists joined Big Nick’s Annual Ride for the Fallen, which honors those from the Cape who have died serving the country since 9/11. The thirty-five-mile ride raised $60,453 for local military families and veterans.


The Columbus Foundation has announced that its John W. and Edna McManus Shepard Fund and Guernsey County Foundation have awarded grants totaling $19,628 to organizations serving Cambridge and Guernsey counties. Recipients include the Dickens Victorian Village of Cambridge, Lutheran Social Services of Southern Ohio, the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center, and the Ohio Arts and Crafts Foundation.

The Greater Cincinnati Foundation has named Robin Martin as its director of community strategy. Most recently, Martin served as an assistant professor in Educational Leadership and associate provost for Diversity and Inclusion at the University of Cincinnati. In 2016, Martin received the Urban League of Greater Southwest Ohio Journey Award for her commitment and service in Cincinnati. 

South Carolina

The Community Foundation of the Lowcountry in Hilton Head has announced grants totaling $162,731 to three organizations. The recipients are the Arrhythmia Alliance, the Sandbox, and the Savannah Children's Choir.


The Community Foundation of Utah in Salt Lake City has announced that its LGBTQ Community Endowment Fund has awarded grants totaling $34,000 to eleven organizations. In addition to receiving their grant awards, the 2017 grantees will each have an opportunity to give a five-minute pitch to compete for a share of $10,000 in additional funding available. The 2017 recipients include Encircle, Equality Utah, Utah Public Radio, and Communidades Unidas.


The Greater Green Bay Community Foundation has announced that it has received a $250,000 grant from the Green Bay Packers Foundation to launch the Give BIG Green Bay online campaign on February 27, 2018, and create a matching pool of funds as a way to incentivize local donors. Up to thirty organizations representing a cross-section of community agencies will be selected to participate and benefit from the inaugural crowdfunding event. GGBCF will begin accepting applications from local nonprofits on September 1; the last day to apply will be October 1.
