Alaska

The Alaska Community Foundation has raised $100 million in support of its endowment, KTVA reports. The five-year campaign resulted in approximately eighteen hundred gifts, including a single $40 million gift from an unidentified donor. The endowment will provide support for a wide range of nonprofits in the state, including the foundation's ten affiliate foundations.

Arkansas

The Walton Family Foundation and the Walmart Foundation have announced grants totaling more than $1 million in support of TRUE Northwest Arkansas, an initiative of the Arkansas Community Foundation. The funds will be used to boost the capacity of ten nonprofits serving underrepresented populations in northwestern Arkansas. Over the next two years, the organizations will participate in shared-learning experiences and receive technical assistance from the community foundation. Recipients include Arkansas United, the Bentonville Islamic Center, the Hindu Association of Northwest Arkansas, and the Hispanic Women's Organization of Arkansas.

California

The Solano Community Foundation in Fairfield has announced grants totaling $33,850 to organizations working on mid- and long-term recovery efforts in the wake of this fall's devastating wildfires in Napa and Solano counties. Awards will provide for such things as new shoes and socks for grade-school children, Spanish-speaking case managers to help with insurance claims, and rental assistance. Recipients include Calistoga Affordable Housing, On the Move, United Policyholders, and Project K.I.K.S. (Kind Initiative Kids Shoes).

The Silicon Valley Community Foundation has announced the appointment of Dan'l Lewin as its board chair and the addition of three people to its board of directors. Lewin, the president and CEO of the Computer History Museum, had been serving as vice chair and was on the committee that selected Nicole Taylor to replace Emmett Carson as the foundation's president. The new board members are attorney George Brown; William and Flora Hewlett Foundation president and CEO Larry Kramer; and Opportunity Fund CEO Luz Urrutia.

Colorado

The Community Foundation Boulder County has announced that its Open Door Fund will transition its annual Open Door Fund Dinner to Out Boulder County. With assistance from the foundation, the two organizations will co-host The Gayla, a black-tie affair to raise funds for LGBTQ programs in the county, on April 20. 

Michigan

The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan has announced more than $11 million in fourth-quarter grants to organizations working in the areas of the arts, education, housing, and health and human services. Recipients include the Anton Arts Center, the Downtown Detroit Partnership, Connect Detroit, and Kevin's Song.

Ohio

The Greater Cincinnati Foundation has announced the appointment of Rickell Howard Smith as its director of community strategies. An attorney, Howard Smith previously served as the Ohio litigation and policy director at the Children's Law Center.

Pennsylvania

The Erie Community Foundation has announced grants totaling more than $3.5 million in support of local nonprofits. Recipients include Early Connections, the Mental Health Association of Northwestern PA, Erie Arts and Culture, and the Young People's Chorus of Erie.

Rhode Island

The Rhode Island Foundation has announced that it will award college scholarships of up to $20,000 through its Carter Roger Williams initiative. Conceived and funded by philanthropists Letitia and John Carter, the program honors the principles of the state's founding father, Roger Williams. Rhode Island high school seniors who display an appreciation for the values of Williams are eligible for up to $80,000 in tuition assistance over four years based on their financial need and academic standing.

Washington, D.C.

The Greater Washington Community Foundation has announced that its Resilience Fund will provide support to the more than 285,000 furloughed government workers in Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia who have been affected by the partial government shutdown. The foundation also allocated $50,000 to the fund to help local nonprofits address their most critical needs and has been soliciting additional gifts.
