The Santa Barbara Foundation has announced Diane Adam, Nancy K. Johnson, and Gayle Pratt as the 2015 recipients of its Celebrate Philanthropy Awards. In partnership with the Santa Maria Times, the foundation recognized Adam for her work with the Discovery Museum, Johnson for more than a half century of philanthropic investments, and Pratt for inspiring others to get involved in their communities.
The Eden Prairie Community Foundation has announced that it will double gifts totaling up to $3,500 made during its "give to the max" day on November 12. Gifts from the public will be doubled by those made by foundation staff and board members.
The Pittsburgh Foundation and Heinz Endowments have announced Pittsburgh-based artists Karla Boos and Brett Kashmere as the winners of this year's Carol R. Brown Creative Achievement Awards. Boos is being recognized for her twenty-five-year career as founder and artistic director of the Quantum Theatre, while Kashmere will receive the Emerging Artist Award. Both prizes include a cash award of $15,000.
The Eastern Carolina Community Foundation in Florence has announced that it will join more than seven hundred and fifty community foundations celebrating Community Foundation Week Nov. 12-18 by conducting a food drive to benefit the needy at Thanksgiving. Area residents will be able to leave non-perishable food items at the foundation's office between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. during that week.
The Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge in Staunton has announced that, as part of the 22nd annual Dawbarn Education Awards, it honored ten individuals with awards of $10,000 each. Established in 1992, the awards are given to individuals who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to inspiring education and learning among young people attending local public schools.
The Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation in Martinsburg has raised more than $18 million in the past twenty years, Herald-Mail Media reports. Launched in 1995 with a $100,000 gift from George Hancock, the foundation has since awarded nearly $6 million in scholarships. In 2014, the foundation awarded $600,000 in grants.
