Arkansas
The Fort Smith Area Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Arkansas Community Foundation, has announced grants totaling more than $28,000, the Times Record reports. Recipients include the Fort Smith Heritage Foundation, Antioch, Fort Smith Symphony, and Our Father's Heart Food Pantry.
Arizona
The Arizona Community Foundation has announced that it awarded $11.7 million in both discretionary and donor-advised grants in the second quarter of its fiscal year in the areas of quality education, health innovations, community improvement and development, environment and sustainability, and arts and culture. Recipients include the Maricopa County Education Service Agency, the Phoenix Public Library Foundation, Northern Arizona Healthcare, the Arizona State Fire School, and AQUA-Africa.
California
The California Community Foundation has appointed Paul Schulz as its new vice president of development and donor relations. Schulz, the former CEO of Red Cross Los Angeles, has served on the foundation's board for eight years.
The Silicon Valley Community Foundation has announced that the Caltrain Holiday Train will make nine stops on December 5 and 6 to help raise awareness of and funds to address needs in the region. The thirteenth annual Holiday Train will be decorated with thousands of lights and make twenty-minute stops, during which revelers may join in singing carols and listen to the Salvation Army brass band. Prior to the arrival of the train, families can enjoy live entertainment at each of the Holiday Train station stops. Food trucks will also be on site in Mountain View, Santa Clara, Menlo Park, and Sunnyvale. New this year, Holiday Train representatives will be a part of a special celebration on December 5 at 9:00 p.m. at San Jose's Christmas in the Park.
Kansas
The Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas has announced grants totaling $121,700 to forty-seven organizations, boosting its gratmaking total for the year to $151,000. The announcement was made in conjunction with its Community Foundation Week celebration.
Maryland
The Baltimore Community Foundation has appointed Patti Chandler as its new vice president of finance and administration.
Michigan
The Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area has announced eight grants totaling nearly $150,000. Recipients include Good Samaritan Ministries, the Greater Ottawa County United Way, the Holland Free Health Clinic, and Van Raalte Farm Civil War Muster.
New York
The Northern New York Community Foundation in Watertown has taken ownership of the building that housed the Black River Valley Club for more than a century and will turn it into a philanthropy center, WWNY-TV.com reports. The building, which is across the street from the foundation’s office, had been vacant since February, when the club closed due to declining membership. The foundation aims to move into the building within a year and offer office space to other nonprofits.
Pennsylvania
The Erie Community Foundation has announced grants totaling more than $1.8 million in unrestricted funds. Recipients include Erie DAWN, Harborcreek Youth Services, Early Connections, and Mercy Center for Women.
