The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven has announced the appointment of Fernando Muñiz to its board of directors. Muñiz, the CEO of Community Solutions, Inc., a nonprofit that promotes self-reliance, responsibility, and accountability for at-risk and disadvantaged youth and adults, is a member of the foundation's Progreso Latino Fund Advisory Committee.
The Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut in New London has announced grants totaling $210,554 in support of fifty-three nonprofits working to create greater equity for women and girls in southeastern Connecticut. Grant recipients include Community Health Resources, Perception Programs, Safe Futures, and the Hispanic Alliance of SECT.
Scottdale Early Learning, an early care and educational organization serving low- and moderate-income families in DeKalb County, has received a $25,000 grant from the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta to address census underreporting of children under the age of five, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. In partnership with CDF Action (formerly Clarkston Development Foundation), SEL will work to inform families about the importance of an accurate census count and assist them in completing the form.
The Central Indiana Community Foundation has announced that the Women's Fund of Central Indiana has awarded grants totaling $241,500 to fourteen local organizations in support of efforts to make the region a place where all women and girls have equal opportunity to achieve their full potential. Grant recipients include the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana, the MLK Center, the Domestic Violence Network, and Seeds of Hope.
The Greater Cincinnati Foundation has announced that its giving circles awarded more than $250,000 in grants during 2019. They include the NKY Giving Circle, which awarded grants totaling $60,000 to six organizations; the Animal Welfare Giving Circle, which gave $92,500 to nine organizations; and the Arts and Culture Giving Circle, which awarded nine grants totaling $95,000.
The Oklahoma City Community Foundation has announced grants totaling more than $60,000 to fifty area churches and organizations involved in providing mobile meals to area residents. The foundation has distributed more than $400,000 since 2008 in support of the mobile meal effort in central Oklahoma.
The Pittsburgh Foundation has announced operating grants totaling $140,000 in support of seven organizations working to boost voter turnout or address the affordable housing shortage in the region. Grant recipients include the Abolitionist Law Center, Black Dream Escape, Take Action Mon Valley, and the Council for Cultural Equity and Emancipated Education.
The Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation in Martinsburg will celebrate its twenty-fifth anniversary in 2020, The Journal reports. Since its inception, the foundation, which currently manages $28 million in assets, has awarded grants and scholarships totaling more than $10 million.
