The Sacramento Region Community Foundation has announced Francine Vorhees, an accountant with Moss Adams LLP, as the recipient of its seventh annual Dan Poole Award. The award recognizes an advisor who embodies the spirit of Poole through his/her personal commitment to charitable causes, devotion to educating clients about charitable giving, and mentorship of fellow advisors. The foundation also recognized fifteen "bridge builders," advisors who referred clients to the foundation during the past year.


Following the planned retirement of Linda J. Kelly, who served the foundation as president for more than eleven years, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has announced the appointment of board member Yvette Meléndez as interim president, effective March 20. Meléndez, who is not a candidate for the full-time position, will take a leave of absence from the board until a new president is named.

The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven has announced that it joined Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees and other foundations in signing a joint statement in support of the role and contributions of immigrants and refugees in our society. The statement notes that "As philanthropic institutions, we...have invested in creating healthy communities, promoting diversity and inclusion, building a vibrant democracy, and advancing equity and equality for all people, regardless of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender expression, immigration status, and national origin. The recently issued immigration executive orders compromise our nation’s founding principles and the Constitution, our standing in the world, and our core values of liberty, justice, and due process. They weaken our moral leadership, fuel the efforts of those who wish us ill, harm our global competitiveness, and fray our social fabric."


The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties has announced that it will invest $450,000 in nonprofit endowments this year, including $400,000 to the sixteen winners of the Forever Nonprofit Endowment Challenge, with each organization receiving $25,000 in matching funds to establish a permanent endowment with the community foundation. The funds for the initiative were provided by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Fund and the Marie Graber Martens Fund. An additional $50,000 will be awarded to five nonprofit organizations that already have endowment funds at the foundation, with each organization receiving a dollar-for-dollar match of up to $10,000 to add to their endowments.


The Hawai'i Community Foundation has announced that Kelvin Taketa will step down as president and CEO after eighteen years in that position. Taketa will continue to serve as a part-time senior fellow at the foundation.


The DuPage Foundation in Downers Grove has launched an online resource for the community,, reports. In addition to listing arts and cultural events in the area, the site will feature information about classes and workshops, fundraisers, arts organizations and venues, public art installations, and individual artists in DuPage County.


The Central Indiana Community Foundation has announced additions to and new leaders for its board and those of the Indianapolis Foundation and Legacy Fund of Hamilton County, with CICF adding Darrianne Christian and Duane Ingram to its board, the Indianapolis Foundation naming Alan Levin as its new chair, and Ann O’Hara taking over as chair of the Legacy Fund, which also added Bridget Shuel-Walker to its board.


The St. Louis Community Foundation in Clayton is funding TraffickCam, an initiative to thwart sex trafficking by using crowdsourced snapshots of hotel rooms as an aid to law enforcement efforts to locate victims and prosecute traffickers, CNN reports. The brainchild of Exchange Initiative and a team of researchers at Washington University, the initiative has added more than a hundred and fifty thousand hotels to its database and has over a hundred thousand people using the app. Following initial testing in the St. Louis area, officials are optimistic that the app can be replicated by law enforcement agencies across the country.

New Hampshire

The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation in Concord has announced that the Partnership for a Drug Free New Hampshire has launched a campaign aimed at reducing the stigma associated with drug addiction. Launched with support from the foundation, Gov. Chris Sununu, and dozens of advocates from the prevention, treatment and recovery community, The Speak Up NH campaign will include radio, print, television ads as well as powerful testimony from Granite Staters who are in recovery.


The Greater Cincinnati Foundation has announced that fourteen local nonprofits have been selected to compete for a total of $150,000 in grants supporting childhood literacy initiatives in low-income neighborhoods. Earlier this year, the Scripps Howard Foundation, the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, and WCPO 9 On Your Side invited nonprofits to apply for a single $100,000 grant to promote family literacy. The organizations will announce three finalists on March 14 and the winner of the $100,000 grant on April 12. The runnersup will each receive grants of $25,000 from the Duke Energy Foundation.
