Community Foundation Update (2/21/15)


The Silicon Valley Community Foundation has announced that it awarded a total of $474 million to nonprofits in the region in 2014. The foundation also announced that it received $1.96 billion in gifts from individuals and corporate donors during the year.


The Idaho Community Foundation has announced that Bob Hoover, its president and CEO since 2009, will retire in 2016. During Hoover's tenure, the foundation has more than doubled its endowment. 


The Sibley-based Community Foundation of Osceola County, an affiliate of the Greater Des Moines Community Foundation, has awarded grants totaling more than $87,000 to twenty-eight nonprofits, the Daily Globe reports. Recipients include Osceola County Freedom Rock, Sibley Firefighters Association, the Hawkeye Point Foundation, and the Osceola County Livestock Show.


The Cape Cod Association, a supporting organization of the Cape Cod Foundation in Yarmouthport, has announced that it is accepting applications for its 2015 scholarship program. Over the past ten years, the association has distributed more than three thousand scholarships totaling over $4 million to local students.


The Fremont Area Community Foundation awarded six grants totaling $28,000 in its last competitive grant cycle of 2014, the Fremont Tribune reports. For the year, the foundation awarded discretionary grants totaling $215,000 and a total $183,667 from donor-advised funds. Fourth-quarter grantees include Dogg Site Productions, Rebuilding Together, the Dodge American Lodge, and Fresh Hope.


The Oshkosh Area Community Foundation has announced ten grants totaling $134,500, including $30,000 over two years to the Oshkosh Area United Way in support of the Weight of the Fox Valley anti-obesity initiative, $15,000 each to Catalpa Health and Friendship Place for mental health services, and $15,000 to the Winnebago Literacy Council.

The Greater Milwaukee Foundation has announced that its Match Day, which is designed to raise awareness of basic needs in the area, will be held on March 19. With a pool of matching funds contributed by a variety of local funders, including the Brewers Community Foundation, the Ceres Foundation, and Meijer, each donation made online on that day will be matched based on the total amount raised. Last year, more than $3 million was raised through the event.
