The Fresno Regional Foundation has announced that its hometown is one of seventy-five communities participating in the Lumina Foundation's Goal 2025 initiative to ensure that 60 percent of the American — and local — population earns a high-quality degree, certificate, or other credential by 2025. The Fresno Compact and the Central Valley Higher Education Consortium will lead and coordinate the effort. 


The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has announced its new strategic plan, which seeks to amplify the organization's efforts to improve access to opportunity for all residents of the greater Hartford region, especially those with the greatest need. To remove existing barriers to success, the foundation is focusing on three interrelated priorities — vibrant communities, learning (from birth through college), and family economic security — and has identified four key strategies it believes best leverage its assets to affect enduring change: building, sustaining, and sharing knowledge; engaging in public policy; inspiring philanthropy; and stewarding resources and investing in the region.


The Community Foundation for Palm Beach & Martin Counties in West Palm Beach has announced the creation of a permanent, self-sustaining endowment fund for the Dreyfoos School of the Arts Foundation. Other nonprofits with permanent funds at the foundation include the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County, Easter Seals Palm Beach, Martin & St. Lucie, Families First of Palm Beach County, the Florida Council on Economic Education, Gale Academic Leadership, and the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League.


The Chicago Community Trust has announced that more than a hundred and twenty education professionals, nonprofit and foundation leaders, entrepreneurs, developers, and students from across Chicago gathered for Hive Chicago Buzz, an education-focused "hack day." Presented by the Mozilla Foundation’s Hive Chicago Learning Network (Hive Chicago) and supported by the Hive Chicago Fund for Connected Learning at the Chicago Community Trust, the event featured "skill share" sessions in which participants could learn something new, and "working groups" that allowed them to collaborate on figuring out how to take their ideas to a new level.


The Indianapolis Foundation, an affiliate of the Central Indiana Community Foundation, has named Gregory Hahn as its new chair.


The Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts in Fitchburg and the Greater Lowell Community Foundation have announced twenty grants totaling $170,000 from the Nashoba Valley Community Healthcare Funds to improve the health of residents in thirteen communities. Recipients include Circle Home, Deven’s Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry, the Lunenburg Council on Aging, and Pathways for Change.


In response to the shootings in Kalamazoo County last weekend, the Battle Creek Community Foundation, Kalamazoo Community Foundation, and United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region have announced that they will partner with other organizations in the region to create safer communities now and into the future. To that end, the Help Now Fund will provide financial support for victims and their families, community counseling, community vigils, citizen safety planning and violence prevention efforts, and other activities focused on reducing violence.


The Columbus Foundation has announced two grants totaling $75,000 from the Fund for Financial Innovation in support of efforts to increase small business development in central Ohio. Kiva Microfunds will receive $25,000 to launch Kiva Columbus, while the Social Enterprise Accelerator (SEA) Change will receive $50,000 to establish the Sea Change Fund at the foundation in support of social enterprise efforts in the region.

The Greater Cincinnati Foundation has appointed George Vincent to its governing board.


The Oklahoma City Community Foundation and the Oklahoma Department of Forestry Services have awarded grants of $95,000 and $28,500, respectively, to the city in support of a comprehensive tree inventory project. Scheduled to begin in May, the project will geo-locate some twenty thousand trees and provide a detailed analysis of their condition, extent of canopy cover, value of carbon dioxide sequestered, and replacement cost.
