FedEx, the global shipping giant, has announced the launch of an initiative to create opportunities and deliver positive change around the world.
With the goal of strengthening more than two hundred communities by 2020, the company will invest more than $200 million through the initiative, FedEx Cares, in five areas: using its global network to deliver resources where they are needed most in the wake of a disaster (Delivering for Good); developing transportation solutions that connect the world responsibly and resourcefully (Sustainable Transportation); providing pathways to success for young adults in underserved populations (Employment Pathways); applying its expertise and reach to protect pedestrians and make roads safer (Road Safety); and advancing women and minority-owned small businesses and continuing to empower the next generation of entrepreneurs and enable them to access new markets (Global Entrepreneurship).
In celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the Super Bowl this weekend, FedEx has pledged $50 million of $200 million total to the Delivering for Good area. In addition, the company will continue to complement its corporate giving program by encouraging employees to volunteer locally. In 2015, more than seventeen thousand FedEx team members took part in FedEx Cares Week, an event dedicated to service projects in the U.S. and regions served by FedEx around the globe.
"FedEx and our team members have a long history of supporting the communities where we live and work," said Patrick Fitzgerald, senior vice president, FedEx Integrated Marketing Communications. "This new strategy builds on that heritage and takes it to the next level by focusing on ways we can use our operational strength and business expertise to address social challenges."
