FIU Announces $5 Million for Interfaith Chapel on Campus

Florida International University has announced a $5 million gift from philanthropists Trish and Dan Bell for construction of an interfaith chapel on campus.

Inspired by the variety of faith-based groups and student organizations on campus, the non-denominational chapel will celebrate the diversity of the FIU student body and serve as an interfaith space for worship, contemplation, spiritual strengthening, and mutual understanding. When completed, the chapel will accommodate up to two hundred and fifty people and include meeting rooms that can be used for classes dedicated to spiritual or religious subjects of inquiry as well as student gatherings.

Supporters of both the arts and underserved populations in the South Florida region, the Bells both serve on FIU's board of directors. Their gift was made as part of FIU's $750 million Next Horizon campaign, which will support continued student success and the university's research agenda.

"Dan and I have always believed that a strong spiritual foundation, regardless of one’s faith and religion, is a critical ingredient in building a well-rounded and balanced life," said Trish Bell. "Consequently, when we discovered that there was no FIU chapel, we were sincerely thrilled to have this opportunity to play a significant role in helping to bring such a vibrant element to the life of this outstanding university."
