Gordon College to Receive $60 Million for Endowment

Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts, has announced an unrestricted $60 million gift from the estate of Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler, whose grandchildren currently attend the nondenominational Christian college.

The largest gift in the school's history will almost triple its current endowment. The Fowlers, after whom the campus will now be named, have previously funded other projects at the school, including new bleachers for the athletic complex, the refurbishment of the main administrative building, and a pledge to fund the salary, benefits, expenses, and office space for an admissions recruiter in Southern California.

"The Fowlers' gift is often the most difficult money for colleges and nonprofits to raise, as most gifts go toward a specific project," says Dan Tymann, the college's executive vice president for advancement, communication, and technology. "Their generosity will not only secure the financial future of the college, but will also allow Gordon to invest in more student scholarships, enhance faculty salaries, support new and ongoing programs, and assist with capital projects."
