Hearst Foundations Award Grants Totaling $2 Million

The Hearst Foundations have announced grants totaling more than $2 million to fourteen California nonprofits working in the areas of arts and culture, education, health, and human services, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The grants from the William Randolph Hearst Foundation and Hearst Foundation, Inc. include $200,000 over two years to Mercy Housing California, which works to provide low-income seniors and families with affordable housing; $150,000 to the Pacific Vision Foundation in support of a patient assistance fund at the Pacific Vision Eye Institute; and a $200,000 capital campaign grant to the Sterne School, an alternative school that offers individualized remediation to students who need a different approach to learning.

Other grant recipients include the Teacher Pathway Program at California State University-Monterey Bay; the Farmer Veteran Coalition in Davis; LifeMoves, an organization serving homeless families in Menlo Park; the Lucile Salter Packard Children's Hospital in Palo Alto; the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert; and the Spine Institute Foundation in Los Angeles.
