The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has announced more than $1.2 million in grants to forty entertainment-related nonprofits and cultural organizations across the country.
Best known for the Golden Globe Awards, HFPA expanded its giving this year. Awards include $250,000 to the Film Foundation to help restore Federico Fellini's La Strada; $50,000 to the Sundance Institute for its career advancement program; $85,000 to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art to support screenings of independent films; $50,000 to FilmAid International; and $40,000 to American Cinematheque in support of HFPA's annual foreign film director symposium.
"The HFPA's generous support — $3.6 million over the past sixteen years — has significantly impacted preservation by funding restoration of over eighty films by Hitchcock, Ford, Altman, Welles, Powell, [and] Fritz Lang," said Steven Spielberg on accepting the grant for the Film Foundation. "And that's just to name a few."
