Marin Community Foundation Awards $1.5 Million for Senior Programs

The Marin Community Foundation in Larkspur, California, has announced four grants totaling nearly $1.5 million to agencies that provide assistance to older adults in Marin County.

The four recipient agencies — Love Is the Answer, the Marin Senior Coordinating Council, Senior Access, and West Marin Senior Services — provide one-on-one outreach to disabled and institutionalized seniors, counseling and recreational programs, transportation and nutritional services, referrals to appropriate agencies, and outreach to the growing number of non-English speaking seniors.

"Collectively, these represent a wide range of services — and options — for seniors living in Marin," said MCF president Thomas Peters. "While the numbers themselves are significant, with Marin having the fasting aging population in the state — even more poignant is the need for local nonprofit agencies to help seniors lead healthy, independent, and socially stimulating lives. We often hear that a society is judged by how well it treats its elders, and as a county we are striving to be a model."
