Mountain Education Foundation receives $1 million gift

The Mountain Education Foundation in Signal Mountain, Tennessee, has announced a $1 million gift from a longtime supporter who wishes to remain anonymous.

The gift to the MEF endowment will support t K-12 education at three local public schools: Thrasher Elementary, Nolan Elementary, and Signal Mountain Middle/ High School. The schools rely on MEF's annual grant allocations to fund staff positions, technology upgrades, student activities, and professional development and teacher recognition programs. With fundraising events canceled and donations down as a result of COVID-19, the foundation saw revenue losses of more than $150,000 in 2020.

"I believe in Signal Mountain schools and the Mountain Education Foundation," the donor said. "MEF provides tremendous, valuable resources that are key to helping students succeed. Investing in the MEF Endowment means those resources will be available for generations to come."

"I couldn't be more grateful for this altruistic individual who cares so much for our children. We are blessed with donors who are committed and generous and believe in the power of what we are doing now for students, as well as the need for long-term investment in the future," said MEF executive director Hilarie Robison. "We hope and anticipate our community will continue their stalwart support even in this trying year."
