Niagara Community Foundation Receives $14.4 Million Estate Gift

The Niagara Community Foundation in St. Catharines, Ontario, has announced a gift totaling more than C$18 million (approximately $14.4 million) from the estate of David S. Howes, who owned Lincoln Fabrics in Port Dalhousie, New York.

Awarded through the David S. Howes Foundation, the gift will establish the David S. Howes Fund in support of education, healthcare services, and humanitarian issues in the Niagara Falls region. NCF has received $10 million of the gift, while the remaining $8 million will be added to the foundation's endowment.

"David first donated $100,000 to the foundation in 2014 to open the David and Susanne DiLalla Howes Family Fund. In a very real way, it was a test of how the foundation would manage his legacy," said NCF chair Bob Watson. "All things considered, it looks like we passed the test."
