Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville has announced a bequest of $1.25 million from an anonymous alumna to help enhance the learning environment for students and faculty.
A portion of the funds will be added to a previously established endowment that will begin awarding scholarships during the 2014-15 academic year. The university also will use the gift to enhance classrooms, labs, and faculty offices in a variety of academic buildings on campus.
The donor, who requested anonymity and recently passed away, was a student advocate and former member of the Northwest Foundation board of directors.
"This significant gift, which we are so grateful to receive, is transformative in nature, and we wanted to ensure it directly impacted students and faculty," said Northwest Missouri State president Dr. John Jasinski. "Gifts such as this — unrestricted in nature — celebrate legacies and change the learning landscape for the better. This is a beautiful testament to a life dedicated to students and giving back to Northwest — role model behavior on so many levels."
