The Obama Foundation has made public the names of and general amounts contributed by its donors during the second quarter of the year, including twenty new gifts of at least $1 million.
According to the foundation's website, which lists the dollar amounts of gifts given as cumulative ranges, recent donors of at least $1 million to the foundation include billionaire venture capitalist John Doerr and his wife, Ann, who have made gifts of a similar size in the past; Barbara and Amos Hostetter, founders of the Boston-based Barr Foundation; the New York City-based Reginald F. Lewis Family Foundation; the Connecticut-based Rosenthal Family Foundation; and the Oprah Winfrey Charitable Foundation. Although there was only one new donor in the $250,001-$999,999 range, there were five new donors in the $100,001-$250,000 range, including the Sara and Evan Williams Foundation in San Francisco and Kevin Xu, CEO of MEBO, a California-based intellectual property management company.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the foundation received approval this spring from the Chicago City Council to go ahead with Obama's presidential center in Jackson Park. The campus will cost more than $500 million to build, and all funds for its construction are expected to come from private donations. The foundation will break ground on the center later this year.
