People in the News (3/4/18): Appointments, Promotions, Obituaries

The board of directors of the Skoll Foundation has temporarily suspended the search for a new CEO and named RICHARD FAHEY, the foundation’s chief operating officer, interim president. Fahey will take over for current president and CEO SALLY OSBERG, who has served as president for seventeen years, on May 1. In his time as COO, Fahey has invested significant energy into directing the foundation’s approach to measurement and evaluation and has been deeply engaged in its strategic work with climate change, social entrepreneurs, and other innovators. Prior to joining the foundation, Fahey spent over a decade with the Hewlett-Packard Company, where he held senior finance policy and controller positions. He earned his BA at Georgetown University in Economics and History, and his MBA at the University of Chicago.

The Tiwahe Foundation, an independent American Indian-led community foundation in Minnepolis, Minnesota, has announced the hiring of NEVADA LITTLEWOLF as president and CEO. Littlewolf has developed culturally specific leadership training with several national training organizations, including the White House Project and Wellstone Action, and prior to joining the foundation served as executive director of Rural American Indigenous Leadership (RAIL), an organization she founded in 2012 to support and grow women’s leadership in rural Minnesota. She has, in addition, been an elected member of the Virginia City Council since 2008.

The board of directors of the Philanthropy Workshop has announced the appointment of RENEE KAPLAN as its chief executive officer, effective April 2. Kaplan has more than twenty years of business experience in corporate, entrepreneurial, and foundation sectors and most recently served as chief strategy officer and head of programs at the Skoll Foundation, where she oversaw the Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship, the Skoll World Forum, strategic alliances, and communications. Prior to her role at Skoll, she was the principal at RKaplan Consulting and partnered with clients including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Trusera Corporation, the Palo Alto Unified School District, Stanford’s Center on Philanthropy and Civic Society, and the White House Council on Community Solutions. After selling her business, she spent six years as executive vice president of the Casey Family Programs Foundation, focusing on improving outcomes for vulnerable children and families in the U.S.

The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee in New York City has named DONNA W. MARINO as senior development officer responsible for the New York metro area. Marino comes to the organization from NYU Langone Medical Center, where she was a senior development officer and oversaw fundraising for a number of areas, including the Department of Medicine. Prior to JDC and her career in the nonprofit space, Marino was an accomplished executive with top-level marketing, sales, and general management experience in Fortune 100 companies, including Haagen-Dazs, Centrum, and Lipton brands. 

The trustees of international humanitarian organization Save the Children have announced the election of JEREMY C. KOHOMBAN to its board. Kohomban, president and CEO of the Children’s Village, has more than twenty years of experience as an advocate for children. Prior to joining the Children’s Village in 2004, he served as senior vice president of Easter Seals New York.

In other news, the Huey and Angelina Wilson Foundation in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has announced the upcoming retirement of president and CEO DANIEL J. BEVAN at the end of 2018.  Bevan began his career with the former H.J. Wilson Company, was involved with the foundation’s founding in 1986, and has served as a trustee and officer of the Foundation for the past ten years. "I have greatly enjoyed the more than forty-year association I have had with the Wilson family," said Bevan. "It has been an honor and privilege to serve the foundation since 1986 and to appreciate the impact the foundation has made to the greater Baton Rouge community through its grantmaking…to our area's great nonprofit community. I look forward to continuing my relationship with the Foundation as a trustee for years to come."
