Publix Super Markets Charities Awards $5 Million to Address Hunger

Publix Super Markets Charities, in Lakefield, Florida, has announced a $5 million grant to Feeding America in support of member food banks, schools, and other nonprofit organizations focused on alleviating hunger across Publix's operating area.

Grants ranging from $50,000 to $150,000 will provide assistance for transportation and childhood program needs at the food banks and nonprofit agencies. Grant recipients include the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama in Birmingham ($150,000); All Faiths Food Bank in Sarasota, Florida (150,000); Golden Harvest Food Bank in Augusta, Georgia ($100,000); the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina in Raleigh ($100,000); Lowcountry Food Bank in Charleston, South Carolina ($150,000); Chattanooga Area Food Bank in Tennessee ($100,000); and Feeding America Southwest Virginia in Bristol ($50,000).

"For more than fifty years, we have been nourishing the communities in which Publix operates," said Publix Super Markets Charities president Carol Jenkins Barnett. "Through these efforts, we've supported early education programs and the plight of the hungry and homeless, recognizing the importance of education and proper nutrition. We believe every child deserves to have hope, love, and joy. Our foundation is dedicated to giving these gifts of nourishment and hope to our communities."
