Rochester Regional Receives $20 Million in Gifts for New Building

Rochester Regional Health in upstate New York has announced gifts totaling $20 million from Robert Sands, the Sands Family Foundation, and Constellation Brands for a new building on its Rochester General Hospital Campus.

Part of a recently launched $300 million comprehensive campaign, the gifts will support construction of a seven-story, 312,000-square-foot facility with twenty-three operating rooms, a hundred and twenty-eight private acuity-adaptable rooms, and fourteen special care nursery rooms. In recognition of the gifts, the building will be named the Sands-Constellation Center for Critical Care. Construction is expected to begin during the second quarter of 2017 and be completed by the third quarter of 2021.

Sands, the president and CEO of Constellation Brands, is chair of the Rochester Regional campaign and a member of the hospital's board. From 1999 to 2104, he served on the board of the Rochester General Hospital System and was its chair from 2001 to 2008.

"It is our goal to ensure that every person in our region, from Batavia to the Finger Lakes, has access to quality health care and the resources they need to get and stay well," said Rochester Regional Health president and CEO Eric Bieber. "This generous gift kicks off an ambitious fundraising campaign that will allow us to enhance services and facilities across our entire footprint."
