Safra Foundation Awards $30 Million to Israeli Brain Sciences Center

The Edmond and Lily Safra Center for Brain Sciences at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem has announced a gift of $30 million from the Edmond J. Safra Foundation.

The gift boosts to $50 million the foundation's contributions to the creation of the center, which aims to foster diverse approaches to neuroscience with the help of the world's leading researchers. Established in 2009, the center is working to combine theoretical and experimental neurosciences across various levels — including cognition, behavior, neuronal, and cellular — paving the way to innovative new discoveries in brain repair and augmentation.

"Unlocking the mysteries of the brain depends on supporting the world's best researchers in a premier setting that encourages effective collaboration," said Lily Safra, chair of the Edmond J. Safra Foundation. "I am proud to be able to support such a noble cause, one that will improve the treatment and quality of life of so many patients suffering from illness of the brain."
