Say Yes Guilford Receives $5.5 Million From Belk Endowment

Say Yes Guilford has announced a $5.5 million grant from the John M. Belk Endowment to advance postsecondary access among high school students in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The grant includes $3 million immediately in support of the Say Yes Guilford scholarship program and $500,000 to fund postsecondary access and completion programs. The remaining $2 million will be split into two challenge grants. The endowment will provide $1 million when SYG reaches $50 million in total fundraising and another $1 million after it reaches $60 million. The gift from the endowment boosts the total raised by the program to approximately $41 million.

"The Say Yes scholarship is truly the fulfillment of hope for many of our local students," said SYG Scholarship chair Chuck Cornelio. "Say Yes represents a promise that, through our schools, a system of wraparound services and supports, and generous donations from organizations like the John M. Belk Endowment, we can and will see our students to and through college. We encourage others to take on the challenge issued today as we aim to reach our fundraising goals."
