St. Jude Medical Pledges $2.1 Million to Support Heart Rhythm Disorders Research, Education

St. Jude Medical, Inc., a Minnesota-based medical device manufacturer, has pledged $2.1 million over five years to the Focus on the Future campaign of the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology. The campaign is raising funds to expand research, education, and patient and professional advocacy in the fields of electrophysiology and arrhythmia management.

To date, more than $4 million has been pledged to the campaign. In addition to the $2.1 million from St. Jude Medical, the campaign has also received pledges of $1.25 million from Medtronic, Inc. and $900,000 from the Indianapolis-based Guidant Foundation.

"This gift demonstrates our support of NASPE's commitment to improve the lives of millions of cardiac patients throughout the world by promoting the highest quality education and training for the professionals who manage the care of patients with heart-rhythm disorders," said St. Jude Medical CEO Terry L. Shepherd.
