The SunTrust Foundation, the charitable arm of Atlanta-based SunTrust Bank, has announced a $2 million grant over three years to 3DE National in support of its expansion in metro Atlanta and the introduction of its innovative high school model in Florida, Texas, and Washington, D.C.
Launched in 2015, the 3DE model combines traditional education with real-world experiences, introducing high school students to a range of careers and industries that empower them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to pursue greater economic opportunity. After introducing the 3DE model at Banneker High School, the highest-poverty and lowest-performing high school in Atlanta's Fulton County School System, the school's graduation rate increased 46 percent. The six 3DE schools in metro Atlanta continue to register positive outcomes, including gains in student achievement, increased student engagement, and the development of transferable competencies.
"Career readiness and workforce development are among areas of focus that drive the SunTrust Foundation's actions and investments," said SunTrust Foundation president Stan Little. "The ground-breaking work that 3DE is doing in the high school classroom aligns seamlessly with our mission to build up our communities and help others gain financial confidence."
